EVENT

ROUND 7 | BATHURST

Thomas Maxwell has recorded his season-best performance last weekend for the penultimate round of the Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia championship at Bathurst.

The young Territorian entered round seven of the season as the only racer on the Carrera Cup grid without previous Bathurst experience. As the weekend progressed, so did his pace around the Mount Panorama Circuit.

Maxwell started the weekend by qualifying ninth before progressing to eighth by the finish of the 15-lap opening race, which coupled as the second to last Endurance Cup race of the season. Maxwell then had a strong start to race two and soon moved to fifth, ultimately holding off Steven Richards to secure his second top-five result of the season. He again placed fifth in the final race of the weekend and, importantly, showed tremendous pace, posting the second fastest lap of the race, a mere 0.01 seconds from the fasted lap of the race.

Maxwell now prepares for the final event of debut Carrera Cup season, to be held on the streets of Surfers Paradise in just two weeks.

FROM THOMAS

""

What a weekend! It's great to walk away from my first Bathurst experience with a smile on my face. Being the only driver in the field to not have raced at Mount Panorama before, it was always going to be the toughest round of the year for me.

I went into the weekend looking to slowly build momentum and get as many laps under my belt as possible, and we did exactly that. I found improvement every time I hit the track and, by the end of the weekend, my pace was matching that of the front-runners.

I'm very happy with my progress throughout the weekend, having kept the car straight and showing maturity at what is considered the toughest and most daunting track in Australian motorsport. I can take away many positives from the Bathurst weekend. We're definitely showing great potential as the season progresses and getting strong results at circuits on which I have limited to no on-track experience.

With only two weeks remaining for the season, I look forward to getting to the Gold Coast and get the season finale underway. Thanks for all those who have supported me, including Sunset Fencing, Well Hung Glass & Aluminium Products and Sonic Motor Racing Services.

See you in Surfers!
